Shabbat
Shabbat
Shabbat’s a habit
Got me early
In a common-sense sort of way
Like my habit of leaving
Webs, on the outside of windows
(Never the inside)
Simply for the pleasure
Of the naked instant
Tīwaiwaka
Plunges the web
Gathering spider-brunch
While I spin in my chair
Missing the moment
But see wings
Flutter against window
& taste the pure delight of life –
& maybe that’s all
The Maker’s want
Over and over
Shock wave insights
Startled enchantments
Calling us to the immediacy
Of a life
We cannot name
.
‘Shabbat,’ the Sabbath: the Jewish day of remembrance, celebration and rest, carried over into Christianity (On Sundays). Essentially, it’s a stepping back from work and remembering and celebrating the deep values of life.
‘Tīwaiwaka:’ the fantail.
‘The Makers’: the powers of Nature. From the Sayings of Humanity.
‘Life:’ the Mystery we are part of, but cannot separate from name.
