Twisted Frequency

Twisted Frequency

We pass freely into Twisted Frequency
Where the team at the gate gift me
My bracelet of many colours
Which I embrace
Like some long-forsaken Joseph
Stumbling his way through the last days
Of his ever so tapu calling, to write
And interpret dreams –
Though I clearly see, humanity’s
Enslavement is not in Egypt
Not somewhere backwards in linear time
But right here in the moment
In the singular now
Where dark pharaohs roam
Seeking to ensnare
The peoples of the Earth
In their multiple systemic malignancies
Which makes our spin dryer minds
Stagger and stumble as the Earth
With its waters, creatures, birds and fish
Sickens and tumbles about –

Yet, here I see how Twisted Frequency
Becomes a portal of life
Where the young seek community
And the light buried in their hearts,
& it all happens right here
Beside the Tākaka River
Which flows alongside the festival site
So, we head to the tent to show Tim’s film
‘Sams Creek, Fast-track to Desecration’
But before we begin, we stand in the queue
As the young enter our view
To learn how to safely use psychedelics
And the god drug DMT

While I watch my mind trip-tripping back
To the late 60s,
And feel like a stranger
Who’s finally set free

‘Twisted Frequency:’ Music, dance and learning festival held on the festival site not far from Sams Creek. Save Our Springs had a presence at Twisted Frequency in 2025 and 2026. Around 5000 young people attend.

‘Joseph’ and ‘Egypt’: see Genesis 37-50, which includes the story of Joseph, who is his father’s favourite and the trouble it brings him.  Joseph has a prophetic gift and can interpret dreams. This gift was key to protecting his family and the people of Egypt during a seven-year famine. The book of Exodus tells the story of the Hebrews’ enslavement in Egypt under a hostile Pharaoh and their eventual escape under the leadership of the prophet Moses.
