Song of my Self

Song of my Self

I love you as the browsing deer
I love you when you’re far and near

I love you in the pouring rain
I love you as the fire’s flame

I love in the possums’ growl
I love you as the hooting owl

I love you in the wekas’ cry
My love for you will never die

I love you in the tuis’ song
I love you when you’re right or wrong

I love in the fuchsia tree
Where korimako sips with glee

I love in the valleys’ mists
As you wander by within your risks

I love you in your solitude
From passing planes at altitude

I love you as the kowhai flower
& kereru, in springtime shower

I love you from the hippie vans
I love you when you’re out of plans

I love you where you walk the hills
I love you as you take your pills

I love you in the stillness deep
I love you as you break and weep

I love you when you love and kiss
I love you as your poems hiss

I love you in the rhyming moon
As you lie awake within my runes

I love you from your beating heart
& when it’s done we’ll never part

~

‘My Self:’ my inner Teacher, the Beloved and Ancient One; who is forever with me, both within and without.

The voice in the poem is that of the Self. The second line is a saying given in a dream.
