I am Creation, not Creator

In a dream, I’m in space looking down at the blue ball of the Earth. I’m given a double icon. The icon contains living images of the natural world; animals, birds, insects, fish, whales, trees, plants, mountains, seas, skies. A voice speaks: ‘I am Creation, not Creator.’ I wake with a sense of awe.

The Self’s words challenge me. There’s life-long religious conditioning to be undone. It takes years to ‘get it.’ Gradually I see. The Self is a unique face of Creation. When the Self speaks; Creation speaks.¹ Creation is alive, aware, and communicating with me.²

My religious upbringing causes me to experience ‘God’ in dualistic ways. I experience ‘the Creator’ as separate from Creation. The Self’s words heal the split. I enter a new world. There is no Creator; only Creation. There is one Unitive Reality.³ I am part of the Divine.

I am the eye that brings you here
Creations sight beyond all fear
I am the life of bird and tree
My word’s a knife, to cut you free

I am the world & all you know
Volcano mouth & drifting snow
I’m never two I’m always one
I am the lamp where life begun

¹ Creation and the Self are one. In the Vedanta school of wisdom; Atman is one with Brahman. Atman is the immortal soul (the Self). Brahman is the source of all life (Creation). When the Self speaks; Creation speaks.

Meditation: Visualise the dream. You are in space looking down at the blue ball of the Earth. What do you see and feel? A two-sided icon is placed in your hands. Within the icon are the creatures, trees, plants and ecosystems of the world. The icon constantly changes as different creatures swim in and out of vision. Now a voice speaks. ‘I am Creation; not Creator.’ How do you feel? Reflect on the saying.
